I tried the above soundfont with Duke3D and ROTT. My favorites still are Chorium Rev A and Timbres of Heaven (99% of the time using Chorium, but I admit ToH has potential to sound better depending on the game/MIDI file). the extra GS drumsets and such which some General MIDI games support, as sometimes the drums seemed to lack some ooomph.Īnyway as said it may also depend on the games one tries, so one needs to try them themselves. I even started suspecting does this soundfont lack e.g. Maybe it depends on the games one tries, but I downloaded that soundfont and tried it with a couple of games (Tie Fighter intro music, Privateer intro music and flight music, and Dune 2), and frankly it sounded quite a bit poorer to me than e.g. I suddenly have an urge to replay damn near every DOS game I got.Timppu: Hmmm. To use in DOSBox all you need to do is have your game installer set music to General MIDI. Save as your default MIDI map, close the program and you're golden.ģ. Place the extracted file somewhere easy to remember and assign VirtualMIDISynth to use your new soundfont file. Download the now 3.2 Final version of Timbres of Heaven. Leave the soundfont selection window open.Ģ. I'm on Windows 7 圆4 personally, Mac and Linux you are not left out but I do not own either.ġ. If you haven't tried it for your old games yet you don't know what you're missing! Everything was installed for free and easy. New Detroit finally feels, looks, AND sounds even more Blade Runner inspired (OMG Soundblaster, I've been using YOU all these years?!) It feels like the world could swallow you whole. Fired up Privateer to test it and my eyes widened like the sun! I'll never use Soundblaster anything as a music setting at install again (barring games of the DOS era that use digital music). I finally installed ToH after awhile of the concept sitting in the back of my mind for too long. Oh my God in heaven, this soundfont is appropriately named! Please forgive the modest necro.
